Event Date:

Discontinued

The Rutland Fire Brigade would like to thank the all of people who have supported the Central Tree Chili Chowder Challenge over the past 20 years. Without your support and that from the surrounding communities, the Rutland Fire Brigade would not be able to serve the Rutland Fire Department and all its endeavors over the years.

This is why it is with mixed emotions we are saying goodbye to the Chowder/Chili Challenge. It has become more and more difficult to pull together all that is needed for a successful Chowder and Chili event to provide a diverse field of choice. We have experienced a decrease in participation and ticket sales over the last several years. Even with our best efforts we have not been able to find the right combination to continue what you have expected of us.

As you know the Rutland Fire Brigade is always looking for ways to support the Fire Dept. and all its endeavors and new ways to bring the community together.  If you have any suggestions, please email one of the officers -- links are on the home page, at the bottom.

If you want to support us directly, please use the 'Donate' button below.

About:

Every year the Rutland Fire Brigade brings together local restaurants and non-profit organizations to compete for the title of best chowder and/or chili. The event usually takes place on the third Sunday in August at Memorial Field in Rutland. Festivities go from 12pm to 4pm and include kids rides, demonstrations, live music, booths from local businesses, car show, fire truck rides, dunk tank (provided by Holden Fire), raffles and door prizes (including gift certificates to all participating restaurants). Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door if you’re having chowder and chili. Admission for everyone else is free! There will be hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream, soda, water and other food available.

This event attracts over 3,500 people every year. If your restaurant or group would like to participate, please email me at RFBchowder@hotmail.com
